10 Craft Ideas to do With Jonah And The Whale Coloring Pages
Once those vibrant Jonah And The Whale coloring pages are beautifully finished, don't let them sit! These easy, affordable crafts put your children's masterpieces to use in fun and creative ways.
1. Whale's Mouth Diorama
Transform a shoebox into the inside of the big fish! Cut out your colored whale and Jonah from the coloring pages. Glue the whale to the back of the shoebox, then glue Jonah inside, making it look like he's in the belly. You can add blue construction paper “waves” for the ocean floor.
2. Jonah's Stormy Seas Sensory Bottle
Create a captivating sensory bottle. Fill a clear plastic bottle with water, a few drops of blue food coloring, glitter, and some baby oil. Securely tape or laminate a small, cut-out Jonah from your coloring page to the outside of the bottle, so he appears to be in the stormy sea. Shake to watch the “storm” rage!
3. Big Fish Belly Hand Puppet
Make a fun hand puppet! Glue your colored whale cut-out onto a paper lunch bag, making its mouth the opening of the bag. Cut out a separate Jonah figure and glue him to a craft stick. Now you can make Jonah “pop out” of the whale's mouth by moving the stick up and down inside the bag.
4. Nineveh Cityscape Collage
Help Jonah deliver his message to Nineveh with this creative collage. Cut out your colored Jonah figure. On a large piece of poster board, draw or glue construction paper shapes to create a simple cityscape. Then, glue Jonah onto your city, as if he's just arrived to preach.
5. Whale Fin Headband
Become the big fish that swallowed Jonah! Cut out two large whale fin shapes from blue construction paper or poster board. Decorate them with markers or glitter. Glue or staple the fins to a strip of paper, sized to fit around your child's head, creating a fun wearable craft. Glue a small, cut-out Jonah from your coloring page peeking over one fin.
6. Rolling Waves Mobile
Capture the movement of the sea. Cut out your colored Jonah and whale figures. Punch holes in the top of each and tie a piece of string to them. Hang them at varying lengths from a coat hanger or two crossed popsicle sticks. Add blue construction paper “waves” strung between them for a dynamic display.
7. “Swallowed Whole” Story Wheel
Tell the tale of Jonah and the Whale interactively! Use two paper plates. On the bottom plate, draw or glue smaller scenes from the story (Jonah on the boat, the storm, inside the whale, spat out). Cut a wedge-shaped opening in the top plate. Attach the plates with a brad fastener in the center, and glue your colored Jonah and whale cut-outs to the top plate to spin and reveal the story scenes.
8. Whale Tail Bookmark
Keep your place in your favorite book with a Jonah-themed bookmark. Cut a large whale tail shape from cardstock. Laminate or reinforce a small, cut-out Jonah from your coloring page and glue it to the bottom center of the whale tail. It will look like Jonah is emerging from the sea whenever you use it!
9. Jonah's Gourd Vine Relief Art
Recreate the protective gourd vine. Glue your colored Jonah figure onto a piece of construction paper. Use green pipe cleaners to create the twisting vines and small green tissue paper balls or pom-poms for the leaves and gourds. Glue them around Jonah to give a 3D effect to his shady resting place.
10. “Lost at Sea” Ocean Jar
Create a tranquil ocean scene in a jar. Decorate a clear jar by painting the outside blue or gluing blue tissue paper to it. Cut out a small Jonah figure from your coloring page, laminate it for durability, and attach it to a piece of string. Suspend Jonah inside the jar, then fill the jar with blue glitter and water for a shimmering, “lost at sea” effect.
