A Beginner Guide to Decluttering Your Kitchen

For those of us who have been living with cluttered kitchens all this time…it's finally TIME TO DECLUTTER!! But first, let’s talk organization because these small changes will not only improve our organizational skills but also give us greater peace when even preparing meals at home (and they may even taste better too! :))

Decluttering your kitchen is the first step to better organization. If you follow these tips, then it won't be long before your place is looking clean and neat again!

Removing clutter from your home is the first step towards living a healthier lifestyle because when you are surrounded by clutter, it can become overwhelming and cause anxiety. Decluttering is not only easy and therapeutic but it can also lead to a happier lifestyle. Clearing out the clutter from your home will clear up mental space and reduce stress as well as make your home nicer to live in. No better place to start with your kitchen, than every area of your home will follow.

The Benefits of Living a Clutter-Free Lifestyle

Decluttering can help you save money. When we declutter our kitchens, we make room for the items that matter most to us and only keep what is necessary. This means no more buying duplicate items.

Removing clutter from our lives gives us a sense of calmness and peace. When your kitchen is clean you will have a sense of peace in the area where you cook and eat. When you have an organized cooking space, it in turn reduces your anxiety. Then cooking is something you enjoy and fun.

Let's begin with…

Countertops

Removing clutter from your countertops makes your kitchen feel cleaner instantly. I like to start with the counters so I can use that momentum to keep going. Because by the time I get to the junk drawer, I'm fried!

If you don't have enough space for everything you want to have on the counter, you can always build vertical space, by using space savers like these.

Kitchen sink

Organize the area around your kitchen sink by having a designated space for all your dishwashing supplies. This means everything from hand soap to sponges should be in one place, so you don't have to search around the entire kitchen every time you want something new. Here is a caddy that can help you organize these much-needed supplies.

Cabinets

Utilize all of the space in your cabinets, to the best of your ability. Especially if you don't have as many cabinets as you wish you did. Cabinets remind me of packing a moving van, you want to take advantage of every nook and cranny.

Drawer organizers aren't just for drawers, you can use them in your cabinets as well. Especially if you have a large cabinet at eye level or above, you may want to use organizers so you can pull them down and go through them when you need something. This is much easier than having to grab a step stool.

Also, I like to keep the same items together. Such as dishes with dishes, spices with spices, snacks with snacks. It's not only easier to find but it's even easier putting things away. We also strive for time-saving solutions!

Drawers

We all have a junk drawer, right? If you're anything like me, then your junk drawer is probably a nightmare. But it doesn't have to be that way anymore. Cleaning out and organizing the drawers makes them easier to use, which will stop you from shoving random things inside. You may want to consider using drawer organizers. The drawer becomes a space where the things you use most often are closer to hand, and everything else can be thrown away or donated.

Storage

We know that when you have a cluttered kitchen, cooking can be challenging. You need more counter space for the appliances and utensils that you use to prepare and make your meals. If you have appliances such as a microwave or a coffeemaker on a countertop, a great solution would be some type of storage cart or unit.

Cooking Space

Organization makes cooking and cleaning up easier as well. We know how frustrating it is when searching through a pile of dishes to find the right one. Or, you are on the hunt in the cabinets to find that one pan for the spaghetti sauce!  When you organize your kitchen you will eliminate these problems. Pots and pans will be easily accessible and you will be motivated to keep your kitchen clean also. This will make cooking more fun and enjoyable.

The kitchen is one of the most used rooms in any home. It’s a place where we enjoy cooking, eating, and one of my favorites, making memories with the ones we love.

Decluttering your kitchen will give you more space to do these everyday tasks with less clutter, anxiety, and frustration. Don't wait – start today!
